JOGLE

John O' Groats 2 Lands End in 10 days

After finishing the World Championships at the Isles of Scilly for gig rowing. I couldn’t commit to the amount of training that was asked of us due to it being my last year at University. Me and my good friend Sam wanted to still have a goal to aim for, so we decided on cycling the length of the country in 10 days to raise money for different charities. Sam raised over £2,000 for Cystic Fibrosis and I raised just a little over £1,500 for Leeds Neuro Intensive care unit at Leeds General Infirmary. The hospital that saved my life.

I knew how to ride a bike and have ridden a bike from a very young age. However, I have never ridden more than 10 miles at a time, and on a cyclocross bike (Cross between a road and off-road bike). This was completely new territory for both of us. Living in Cornwall was the perfect place to train with its steep undulating terrain. We didn’t realise the challenge we had set ourselves until we starting riding and training; increasing the mileage slowly and trying to get our bodies used to it. We are both very determined individuals so nothing was going to stop us achieving the end goal. I always remember feeling exhausted after those rides. It definitely helped, but we still had a lot of work to do.

JOGLE is a very special type of a bike tour. It is one of those achievements that makes you appreciate the country you live in and the hidden beauty it has to offer.
