The monument itself is to Lieutenant-Colonel James Hunter Blair of the Scots Fusilier Guards who died in 1854 at the Battle of Inkerman fought during the Crimean War.

Merrick & Benyellary
Merrick & Benyellary are mountains on the south side of the Galloway Forest Park near Dumfries. They are one of many mountains in the Galloways and are said to be the highest in the area! Usually.
